Who is your role model?

Mostly everyone has a role model in their life. They could be a parent, a brethren, a friend or a teacher. A role model is hard to define, because it can be different for everyone. Who your role model is depends as much on you as it does on the person you admire. Often, it is someone you would like to be like when you get older, or someone who does something you find hard to do. Tell us. Who is your role model?

  1. My role model was my father. I believe I have adopted his work ethic and devotion to family. He would always have me with him when he worked on projects around the house, fixing the car, or haggling with a salesman. For a time he let me come and work beside him at his job and I saw first hand just how hard he worked to provide for the family. I didn't appreciate all this at the time, I just wanted to hang out and play with my friends, but I look back now and see that he was trying to teach me by example. My dad was not perfect, but he did try his best to be a good role model to me, and for that I really appreciate him.

  2. Great question. I think my role models were my mom, my six aunts and grandma. They were eight women, all single moms, no man in the household, having to raise a bunch of children and pretty much themselves. We didn't have much in regards to physical things but what we did have was a community filled with love. It wasn't easy but everyone looked out for each; from the youngest to the oldest. I didn't appreciate them growing up. In fact, I was somewhat resentful. However, as I matured and then becoming a parent, I realized all of the sacrifices each of them had to take in order to make a better life not just for themselves, but for the entire family. I applaud those women for teaching me values that I hope to pass on to my children. Those were and still are my role models.
