PURIM POEM by Rachel M

Queen Esther

My sister Hadassah
reigned with beauty, intelligence and bravery
But she wasn't always this way
Yes in fact, there came a day
when her loyalty to her God and People
was put to the test
When Vashti was kicked out and Hamman made a big mess
And well, you know the rest

When a caterpillar is first born
It faces many trials and tribulations
Before it goes a soar’n

Hadassah was a beautiful Israelite princess
but it took many obstacles to overcome
before she could fully blossom into the famous
and cherished Queen Esther that we love

When a caterpillar is first born
It faces many trials and tribulations
Before it goes a soar’n

Haman was a man with greed for power
so much so that he decreed the people to bow down to him
He declared that Israel would see its final hour

Predators lurk within the night
with such powerful bodies
they cause so much of a fright
That only the brave and loyal ones can overcome
and put up a great fight

Mordecai was a faithful and devoted servant to the God of Israel
and due to his loyalty did not bow down to Haman
His faith is a lesson to be cherished and followed through and through
Because of this great act Israel was able to join as one family and rise up
and do what they had to do

Wisdom and Unity
Will win the fight
And leave you the best
You’ll be the shining light

Hadassah and her people fasted three days
for Haman had planned to kill Israel to satisfy his evil ways
Later she stood before the King
Which was forbidden and could result into her receiving the royal Zing!

But the God of Israel softened Ahasuerus’ heart
and Hadassah fond favor in his sight from the start
Our sister was brave and asked the king to save her people
Her loyalty to the God of Israel was shown and Israel was Redeemed!

When a caterpillar is first born
It faces many trials and tribulations
Before it goes a soar’n

  1. Rachel, you continually amaze me with your various artistic expressions. Your sketch of Queen Esther is absolutely lovely and your poem shows such wisdom and understanding. I loved the way you related Hadassah's story/journey to that of a caterpillar. Though we may face adversity, individually as well as collectively, we still go a "soar'n." You are truly a wise and gifted young lady and I thank you for sharing your wonderful talents with us.
