Oasis Center Helps African American Males Breakthrough Barriers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Oasis Center has a message for African-American males in high school: college is within your reach. To help reach those goals, the Center is providing resources and help families to navigate through the sometimes confusing the process.
Sometimes it's important for students to look forward, to understand the importance of what they're doing right now. That's the technique used by the Oasis Center's college counselors as high school students are asked to discuss where they see themselves at 40 years old.  "It's really about us informing students about the power that they have and us helping them along the way," college counselor Bobby Rooks said.

  1. This organization was one of my clients back in early Spring. I knew they were a nonprofit youth organization...but did not know they had a focus on black males.

    Good post!

  2. Wow, small world. They seem to have a good program. Maybe we can take some cues from them?
